Future updates will require macOS 14 or newer
Today, we released Mimestream 1.10.8, which includes a notice to affected users on macOS 12 and 13 that future updates to Mimestream will require macOS 14 Sonoma or newer.
If an upgrade is available for your Mac, we recommend installing macOS 14 or newer so you can continue receiving Mimestream updates, including compatibility fixes. See Apple’s instructions for updating macOS to check for compatible updates and install them.
Why we’re making this change
Future updates will require macOS 14 so that Mimestream can take advantage of improvements Apple has made to their latest technologies (especially SwiftUI). Many of these improvements cannot be practically adopted while maintaining backwards compatibility with older OS versions. We believe that being able to leverage Apple’s enhancements is the best way for us to execute on our future roadmap and build a better Mimestream for our users.
We understand that this change may impact some of our users with Macs that cannot be upgraded to macOS 14, or have other circumstances keeping them on older versions of macOS. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause, and want to assure our users that this decision was not made lightly.
Can I keep using Mimestream 1.10?
Yes, you can keep using Mimestream 1.10 on macOS 13 and earlier. However, this version will no longer receive updates to keep pace with changes to Google’s services. Over time, those changes could cause compatibility issues or prevent the app from working altogether.
However, if your Mac supports macOS 14 or newer, we strongly recommend upgrading as soon as possible, so you can continue receiving Mimestream updates and reduce the risk of unexpected future disruptions.
